Don’t overlook the traditional stone tools like molcajetes for making salsa or metates for grinding corn. It also won’t be hard to find a molinillo, a wooden whisk used to give Mexican hot chocolate its signature froth. When it’s time to serve dinner, the market has it covered with ceramics, gorgeous Talavera pottery, and locally made wares.
December Events at the Market
The Market Square will host a variety of holiday activities in the weeks ahead. On December 10 at 10 a.m., La Familia Cortez Restaurants will hold the annual Gran Tamalada. For the past decade, this event has celebrated the holiday tradition of making tamales, so don’t miss this opportunity to enjoy a freshly made tamal before Christmas. The event will run until 6 p.m. On December 16, Santa Claus will also be there for pictures and letters.
